So I have a friend who I grew up with that is a great guy and got himself into a bad position while going through a divorce. He made a verbal comment to his wife, which was a threat, but it was just a verbal comment with no physical action. That verbal comment happened in the state of New Jersey where it’s considered a terroristic threat which carries a felony level charge he has never been involved with the police before he has never been arrested or in jail for anything else. This charge happened back in 2020 or 2021 I believe and he completed a year of probation and has not been in trouble since, he was never locked up for it either he accepted a plea deal which costed him his job and ability to find a job moving forward. He applies to so many jobs that offer him opportunities, but they resend the offers after the background long story short he’s a great guy with kids and I was wondering since we are all buddies here if any of you might know of any places in New York or New Jersey that hire people with backgrounds , he is open to different lines of work or opportunities. If any of you have charges or pass dealings with situations like this or know anybody please feel free to DM me as I can pass the information along to him.

Coming clean with dates, times, the charges he pleaded to and added context will go a long way with a background check. If it was the terms of his probation that lead to the loss of his job as opposed to the severity of the charges, that should be within the added context. Beyond that, his previous defense attorney should have given him some guidance on that.

Whatever he says… must match the paper. Forget how it looks, it is what it is.

I’m surprised he didn’t get PTI (pre trial intervention). Its for first time offenders are usually results in automatic expungement after completion of probation. I wonder if he either didn’t have effective counsel or it’s worse that he is letting on.
is there any way he could start his own business? Consultant, dog groomer, carpet cleaning, become an exterminator. Anything where he isn’t working for a company that does background checks.

Sounds more realistic. He should search on more blue-color jobs. All that matter is he can do it everyday or not.
