How do you guys go about making sure they’re legit girls or scams?
The two biggest scams are selling you pics or vids and asking you to pay for gas to get to a meet. A variation of this is asking to pay for broken phone or medical issue.
If it's pics and vids that will surface on the first few messages so just block them. On the others it'll take a few days of texting as bait you. At the beginning of the texting they will have sent you hot pics of themselves to hold your interest. As soon as they hint of needing gas money etc I know the pic was fake. So to play with them I tell them to send a 5 second vid of themselves saying hello to me. This ofc is impossible since the person you are texting with ( probably some guy in Nigeria ) is not the person in the pic .

"move to an alternate platform" like Whats App
Those are almost always the pig butchers. The profiles are AI or so filtered to the point it's a cartoon, and they usually want to discuss family life and "get to know you more first".

I used to fuck with them too, but a lot of the pig butchering is done by real actual slaves who get kidnapped from China over the border into Myanmar or Cambodia where organized crime gangs set up pig butcher farms, with security provided by the military. These dudes have to sit at their desk and jockey 2 or 3 phones and don't get a cent of the scammed crypto. The lucky ones somehow get word to their family who have to ransom them out of there. (It sounds sensationalistic but google and you'll find legit articles on sites like nytimes.com)

Here's a direct quote from today. It's a good example of the stiff slightly formal English the pig butchers write with:

"After I came to the United States, I used WhatsApp on the recommendation of a friend. It has good security and confidentiality, and video and voice calls are very convenient. I think you can try it, I believe you will like it. And I think it also has special meaning for me to be your first WhatsApp friend "

it's a lot easier to just say I don't use WA, won't install it just for them
But I do use WhatsApp. I have WhatsApp business that's setup with my app number not real number and real WhatsApp with real number for friends and family.

I also meant call them on Seeking. I've videocalled a few on Seeking

Here's more with another scammer:

her: "what is your favorite kinks?"
me: "Pete Quaife? JK it's Ray Davies of course"
her: "That is lovely to know as i am a great fan of his musical prowess, My greatest pleasure is soft rigging. I practice western style, <blah blah blah>"

Yup these poor bastards get lured to China under the guise of a job interview or work opportunity. Perfect excuse for them to request your legal documents. Once they have your passport it's over. Then they offer to drive you to the "job site" or "interview site" which turns out to be across the border (e.g. Cambodia/Myanmar as noted).

what?? No it's not guys from here getting lured. THAT I've never heard of. It's like the urban legend of hot babes being kidnapped to be sex prisoner in some oil sheikh's palace. No American just disappears with no hope to get back, even if they get your passport you're not stuck beyond recall.

No, this is where they offer some Chinese guy down on his luck a job and put him on a bus he can't get off until they get there.

Not Americans…usually Asian as you put it in. But not just low levels. Some “tech” jobs too. There’s a John Oliver piece on it.

What never made sense to me was the extraordinary effort they'd put in for such small reward. Often I'm asked to send just $25 for gas money .
