Been there, my friend. Your 3 stages of masitude are spot-on for the aging hobbyist.
Of course, sometimes it’s the plain-looking stand-bys that elicit the easiest feats of plumbing. No pressure leading to high-pressure, so to speak.
You could be right, but I can bring my B or even C game to a regular some times. The frustrating thing is I don't know what affects these things. Diet, Sleep, stress, mood, just no way of knowing what's going to show up, but at least I can feel what it might be before the deed, so I have been able to cancel the session in time, save the dollars, and save the frustration level.

Hydrate, go on an empty stomach, pop a pill. Stay low sodium a few days for lower BP.
True, they say food takes a big bite out of sildenafil effectiveness.
Being in shape, regular cardio are both helpful.
But honestly, with all that, the mysteries of testosterone fluctuation past 60 probably cannot be completely controlled for, and OP’s strategy of cancellation when he senses the lack is better than soldiering through.
If this were too common a problem, I’d look into testosterone treatments from a urologist.

Been tested, testosterone is fine. I'm in the best shape of my life, blood pressure could have the last word I think
