Wendy gives the best TM of any masseuse I've had in the Harrisburg area, or pretty much anywhere, for that matter. She's rightfully proud that she has her massage license. She knows what she's doing. If you enjoy strong work on your back and shoulders, she's the one.

I can understand being disappointed, but I don't understand being "pissed".
The person(s) to get pissed off at are the elected officials in Cumberland County. Vote them out of office. Thomas Kutz, 87th Legislative District - a good example of an elected politico who does nothing except pat himself on the back for attending pancake breakfasts and holding a legislative open house instead of dealing with real issues impacting his constituents, like affordable housing, better access to affordable healthcare for those who cannot afford it, or helping the elderly keep their homes from ever raising school taxes. Pissed? Take it out at election time.

Wait, you read the review that said “absolutely no indication that anything was offered “, went and didn’t get extras, then was pissed? Others clearly said Wendy gives a great massage. If you went expecting more, after not a single review would give you that idea, you are at fault here.

Well when someone clearly states 60+40 ona forum thats dedicated to that, only to find out after driving 30 minutes to get nothing but a massage that was terrible kinda does leave me dissapointed and a tad pissed. Obviously im not that mad as life can be worse but cmon. Don't state it has extras in the post if it doesnt.

This has happened to me too elsewhere, and it sucks. But I understand why it happens. Providers I know have told me almost half of people who make appointments don’t show. They will consequently take a walk in unless they know that the reservation client is reliable.

Rudyb, I agree with both you and BobLaublaw11. Bob's right as to the reasons they ignore reservations to take a walk-in, but in your case, it was just 15 minutes. She could have told the walk-in he'd have to wait 15 minutes to see if you showed up. I'm surprised she didn't do that.

That said, the restaurant analogy isn't a good one, because the percent of no-shows at a restaurant doesn't come close to the percent of no-shows at an AMP. Also, a no-show at a restaurant causes at most a small percentage drop in the restaurant's income for that hour. A no-show at a one-woman spa can cause a 100% drop in the income for that hour.

I can completely understand your being pissed, though. I would have been steaming if something similar had happened to me.

I have had this happen before. I hate double booking as much as anyone else but it happens at airlines and other businesses too in an effort to stay busy. These ladies value time. If I say I will be there in 20 minutes and arrive in 23 minutes, I fully expect that appointment to be gone.

These businesses are often not as successful as you might think, and they really can’t afford to lose the opportunity to make money when a customer comes to the door. Most would not wait 15 minutes to see if a reservation customer shows up or not.

Double booking is not exclusive to this business, as you know. Hotels and airlines do it every day. While it angers some customers, the companies believe it’s still more profitable in the long run.

If the people making reservations had the common courtesy to call and say they’re not coming, this wouldn’t likely be happening. It’s really sad that so many customers ruin things for everyone by being so inconsiderate.

But in my experience, reservations are almost always honored once a customer proves him/herself to be reliable and respectful.

I think that's what happened in this case. I was so surprised Wendy would give away a scheduled appointment that I contacted her to see what happened. She says she had tried to contact Rudy to confirm he was coming but got no response, and that Rudy got there a few minutes later than the appointment time. So she had gone ahead with the walk-in. I can still understand Rudy's frustration. Wendy should have offered more to compensate for his wasted time and effort. But IMO Wendy's actions weren't nearly as egregious as they first appeared.

I've only visited Wendy once and had a nice visit. She has a great reputation. So I was very surprised by the blown. appointment. Spa thank you for shedding more light on this unfortunate situation.
We all intimately aware of the problems with walk ins, especially with a one woman shop (ie Ruby).
Perhaps less aware of their problems---cash flow, and late or No Shows...
Again, thanks. Wendy deserves and values her solid reputation. And a reminder to us that manners go a long way. For everyone.
