How much was the amtrak ticket?

Amtrak tickets to NYC cost between $19 and almost $250 one way depending on time of day, advance purchase date and class. But you can get them with a good time window (6/8 hours) for $44 with a full cancelation refund. A bit less without refund built-in. In most cases you can get most of the purchase as a credit if you get the super saver rate.

To clarify the $44 is round trip. Leave around 11 AM return at 8 PM. The tickets without refund protection are about $6 dollars cheaper in this example. It's an easy commute. I haven't run into any drama or smells from passengers unlike the bus services. People trying to occupy two seats with bags and fake they are in the cafe car is the worst infraction of civility I have seen. Maybe the holiday season will bring more crowds?
