I thought I was the only one who did this. Most times when I feel sorry for the provider who cheerfully greeted me but unfortunately wasn’t of my liking. I tell them I’m sorry no, and give them a $20 . Some are happy, some don’t take it. Some take it and try still to keep me. Nice gesture.

To save face $20 is good. A spa once called up a girl that I wanted but after she came I realized I did not have enough time to be entertained so I apologized and gave her $25 dollars for her coming. How long did it take her to come and di her coming cause her to miss a client? How much money did she loose in that lack of transaction on my part? $25 was sufficient and there will be no annamosity next time we should meet.

That's different. That was on you, so your tip seems adequate to me in this situation. In the OP's case, it was on her, fake advertising. Anyways, I don't judge, just wanted to understand the logic. Thanks all.

I guess I have been lucky, this is is the first time I walked out and just wanted to be polite about it. Nothing more than that.

I guess you can look at it as "here's $20 which is silently implying that I think you're hideous, so excuse me for the insult.". Lol, which is how I always assumed they take it when we do that.

FYI I've never tipped when I said no thanks, but I can understand the possible guilt. There's a few times as I'm walking out I can imagine what's going on in their head as I probably wasn't the first to do it.
