For NYC, DAT's (Desk Appearance Tickets) are the usual for first timers. No bail or remand for those. Unless the arrestee was a public servant, like the recent MTA worker, it generally doesn't make the news. But NYC has plenty of neighborhood rags that will report anything going on in their local Precinct.
A couple of exceptions where it may not be a simple DAT: 1) If you already have multiple convictions for Solicitation, and they need a judge to decide if bail is required. 2) The arrest was part of a raid. You might still get the DAT, but they will hold you in custody while they sort out the evidence. 3) They find drugs or weapons on you during the arrest.
