I tend to steer clear of places that:
Slice, dice and finely chop the steak...if you're a moron it makes it easier to cook, also makes it easier to hide fat, or worse yet gristle.
Leave a pile of pre-cooked meat at the edge of the grill, that they heat up as sandwiches are ordered. No thanks.
Don't properly melt cheese slices or sauté onions (it's not an f'n hot dog, no raw onions please).

Steve's Prince of Steaks (at least the original 2 in NE) is my fav, thin slices of quality rib-eye and American cheese sauce no one else seems to use (much less salty and processed tasting than whiz).

For something different, Nicks Charcoal Pit on Snyder near 13th makes a filet mignon sandwich (called a Nick's special) with sharp prov and spinach on a sarcone's roll. Pit is a bit misleading as it's more of a hole in the wall, take-out only even before all this madness.

I may be easytoplease when it comes to spending an hour with a beautiful woman, but cheesesteaks are another matter entirely.

Wherever OP ends up, please, PLEASE do not Get to the window only to take 20minutes to decide what you want, and then ask for Swiss.

You may not able to keep any of the crowd Behind you in line from clubbing you senseless.

If it is busy, the person at the window will scream NEXT and the next person in line will show you how to order.
Genos and Pats sandwiches never awed me, but the transaction time is amazing.

geno's does not chop the meat, and they do such volume that the meat is always just-cooked

And as someone else mentioned little Sicily 2 on Columbus in south Philly has an amazing Indian spice chicken cheesesteak that’s out of the world

Sorry off topic of cheese steak but it’s food.
Stop at bon chon on cherry in china town. Get a couple drinks, workers are attractive and talkative.
Stumble in Saigon and a couple other spas to see what’s up.
Head back to Bon Chon and get the chicken. It’s spicy as hell. Really good. So spicy you may not want it before a massage.
After stop at the China mall place around the corner- go up stairs to the bar, extremely hot bar tenders. I often go there for drinks before massage.

Update - As of today, we're looking to make the run (and eat them in our car) as soon as we get them. Tuesday or Wednesday (next week) is the plan and as of now, based on feedback from here, Dalessandro’s is the GO TO place (I made a spreadsheet and checked reviews on Tipadvisor). Should take me less than 2 hours (I'm a lead foot). I will post my review. commentary and image, so you fine Philly folks will know your efforts were appreciated!

Delassandro's, go American or Provalone. Sautéd onions a must. Sauce or ketchup, your choice.

Back in the day Larry''s King of Steaks near St. Joes was the bomb. A Belly Filler was the best. A 2' long over sized roll cheese steak,

It will have American and sauteed onions, of course! Ketchup will be considered...

If you have time I recommend hitting up two places, just eat half at each stop (tell them to cut sandwich in half when you order). Dalessandro's is far enough from everything else that you will have some time to digest between stops.

You’ll be very happy with Dalessandro’s...I would plan to get there at an off peak time...I’ve had to wait up to an hour on a Saturday afternoon...their chopped hot pepper spread is worth a try...they do have a couple tables outside so you might be able to avoid eating them in the car...enjoy
