Not sure why a burner would help. Sure she can't track where burner is, but don't you still need to have your original phone? And if you leave the original phone at your office, she will probably know something is fishy. I used to jailbreak phones but that loophole more or less closed after iOS10+. I got a divorce and now no one gives a fuck.

If you don’t understand how a burner helps, you aren’t serious about this hobby or your security. It’s not a question of better, it’s more one of how much you need to cover your tracks. I haven’t taken my regular phone to a session in 5 years. And if you had an android, you wouldn’t have all those IOS problems.

2007 study: Wrapping a cell phone in aluminum foil creates a Faraday cage. Because cell phone signals are electronic, the aluminum foil prevents the signal from reaching the cell phone.

You could:
A) leave the phone at the office and confine yourself to 30 minute visits close by for the time being. Save a bunch of money with which to take said wife to Le Coucou.
B) Confess to your wife that you have a sex addiction for which you are seeking help from a therapist once a week at a building in, hmmm... midtown!
The sessions must, of course, remain totally confidential.

So I wrote " please call 917-xxx which is my wife's number. Somehow our phones are connected by an old family plan.
Apple is not a telecommunications provider... So you having a family plan with AT&T does not mean they have access to your location or icloud etc. What they could potentially have direct access to is the history of all the #'s you are calling or texting. Which if entered into google, could easily blow up your spot with the misses.

Use a burner sure, but not understanding how not bringing your phone helps your Op-Sec. I could see how not bringing ID to a session would help if you were paranoid...

It all depends on how careful you need to be and who is trying to get you.

the way most peoples phones work - they have allowed many applications to access location information. from google to facebook, to waze, to apple. so all those apps are going to know that you work in NYC 5 days a week and every thursday night you are over in flushing getting laid for an hour. Its also pretty trivial to track a phone down to what cell tower its connected to, well within the skillset of an average teenager, or cheap private detective, not to mention the cops. The mitigating factor on the cops side is that they really arent supposed to do that without a warrant (although they do all the time). There's no restrictions on anyone else. I can and have demonstrated that all i need is your phone number or for your phone and mine to be in the same room, and i can start tracking your location. Maybe not gps level accuracy, but close enough if you have to travel more than a half mile to see your honey.

So you can make judgement calls that something isnt a big risk so why protect from it? Personally i'm pretty strict. I have no social media on my phone and scope down access to location info to one mapping program. And i leave my regular phone at home, at work, or powered off in my car.

And i dont even have a wife. Just an inside knowledge of how apple and google and the cops abuse your private information on a constant basis.

In place like NYC with a-lot of businesses at same lat/long on-top of each other that would be pretty noisy. They do take that foot traffic data and sell it to hedge funds so that they can predict the next quarter's sales for Chipotle or big box retailers etc.

The police certainly can get a warrant or wiretap but thats not a concern for me ... And not sure what you are talking about with these other things but doesn't really pass the sniff test imo

Reading through this thread I am amazed at how little some folks know about the technology they are keeping in their pocket.

To stop sharing your location with all apps and services, for even a short period of time, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and turn off location sharing. This stops all apps on your device, such as Maps, Weather, etc. from using your location.

Btw, I’m liking my own idea for dealing with suspicious wife with GPS more and more; anyone could find “therapy” useful, right?
There’s bound to be a therapist in one of the buildings that also houses a favorite amp, say, BG, or DDY.
So you confine yourself to that place for a few months. You always show at the same day and time, so you get the pick of the current litter.
Read a book on therapy and say things like, ‘I’m hearing that you’re frustrated that I’m not around more to help with the kids’.
She’ll feel that you’re really working on making yourself a better husband. You’ll feel satisfied with regular extracurricular activities. No elaborate lies need be concocted. Happy wife, happy home. Win-win.

Why would you make it so difficult though? This requires really complicated lying, which is the worst kind. Its also super surface level, as your alibi can be easily picked apart by anyone savvy enough with google. You HAVE to keep it simple. I have an easier time of it due to my job, but my go-tos are

1. Site visit with client
2. Site survey
3. Offsite meeting
4. Offsite event

I just keep it vague and dismissive. Then again, I don't share my location with my wife so I never have to worry about her looking at where I am any given day, I just need to account for lost time.

Yeah thats pretty much just an extension of the Chipotle research and thats 6+ year old tech at this point. Good thing we live under a surveillance capitalism instead of a police state.
dont understand your point. You said that this couldnt be done, and i showed you how its not only feasible, its mainstream stuff that anyone can do. Whether you are concerned with it is up to you. I choose to be very careful about who knows where i am, whether its the government, google, apple, Meta, or my co-workers.

Well OP said his wife is already suspicious, and is probably following his movement through cell phone tracking.
So with those givens, how to get away with amp visits and not wind up in a divorce? Thus the elaborate ruse, which winds up being simple, because he doesn’t have to stop location sharing.

This program, which needs to be run on a computer while connected to your phone, can change your location. I've used it for a while now.

Downside:

-Need to have a lap top with you
-iPhones occasionally recalibrate their GPS and then the real location is showing. I haven't figured out how or when it happens.
