Really comes down to how risk adverse or risk seeking are you. You get it, and you're guaranteed some discomfort, but at the same time if you do get exposed to the flu, you can mitigate some of the symptoms and get better faster. However, the disconnect that we experience as humans is that because we don't first hand experience the alternative of getting really sick when we haven't had the flu shot, we take the flu shot for granted and don't think of the benefits.

But yeah, I've rode public transportation for most of my life.
I've had the flu twice in 54 years. Lasted 4 days both times.
Low risk.
And that other shot they're concocting...who knows what will be in that?
I'd rather simply exercise, take my vitamins and minerals, stay within the green zone for "BMI" where I have been all my life, and take my chances -- which I consider to be very good.

At 57 and good health I've never gotten a flu shot and had the flu once 15 years ago . I had covid in April with mild symptoms but I currently have no antibodies. I doubt I'll get the regular flu shot or the covid shot.My doctor also recommended the shingles vaccine at my age. I may actually get that one as I've heard it can be very painful.
Before COVID, the Flu kills on average 30,000 Americans from an estimated infection population of 30 million. That's 1:12 for odds of catching the Flu. From zero patients.
With COVID, knowing there's over 6 Million positive cases from an unknown amount of those really infected, but is expected to be much much higher. Not good odds of not catching one or the other this winter. At least you can do something about the Flu. Especially if you don't believe wearing masks will help.

Even if you did get the Flu Shot, a small percentage will still get the Flu. It's not a guarantee. Like all vaccines, it's a head start for your body to develop antibodies to fight it so you don't get sicker.
As for the COVID vaccine, there's going to be a lot of them. And I'm going to look at the published papers on each of them before I decide which one to get. It will be one that followed all medical protocols properly, and had the best results. If a vaccine showed up by Election Day, it's an automatic "No". Because there's no way it didn't take short cuts on the length of time to conduct all phases of the trial properly.

I'm with you on these points. I wear the mask only when in public indoor places and even then just below my nose. I recently got the tetnus vaccine after stepping on a nail, with all the crap one can die from I'd feel silly doing so via lockjaw. Maybe in my late 60s I'll worry about flu shots but I rarely catch anything and I'm retired now which limits my exposure more than ever.
