Didn’t think spas would be their primary target but it clearly is and the bottom of the article indicates their goal is to close them all.

It defies logic that a human trafficking unit is making arrests on providers; the people they claim to be helping.

I’m sorry but this just annoys me.

Of course, you can't have a task force without acronyms:
illicit massage establishments (IMEs)
Human Trafficking Unit (HTU)

"Victim services specialists also helped provide assistance to an employee who was identified as a likely victim of human trafficking officials said."
Hmmm, a likely victim! To vindicate their whole purpose in life. Three spas knocked over, and they found one "likely" victim.
Then, I wonder - what happened to this poor victim?

AMP’s are easy targets to get some publicity like they are actually doing something. The general public think they are saving teenagers when all they are doing is stopping a bunch of grandmothers from making a few dollars. It’s not about stopping human trafficking, it’s about The AG getting her soulless face in front of the cameras.

Pretty annoying to the providers, too, and pretty Orwellian overall.
I guess we are all engaging in wrongthink and will be found guilty of thoughtcrime.
Reminds me of the comment by an American major during the Vietnam War:
"It was necessary to destroy the village in order to save it."

I guess it is time to start visiting independents until this blows over.
.. I don’t think this is going to “blow over”anytime soon as long as this HTU has funding… I fear it’s going to get like MD LE .. zero told for Stores..
.. DOJ probably got Homeland money to support the effort…and will expect a return on investment by way of serious charges and action..it’s not going to be pretty.. :-(

Agreed, states need to show that they are doing something to combat human trafficking so they can get the federal money. Meanwhile they are not even putting a dent in the actual trafficking. All they are doing is picking the low hanging fruit.

… if this enforcement trend continues the providers are going to be reluctant to come down to work in DE just like they avoid Maryland .. could be a long dry Summer if the Closures continue…

I wonder if this new closure is part of the eviction-style closings, or is a business decision.
I haven't seen any reviews of that location in over a year.
… think this is the Modis Operindi now for this unit…afraid there’s more to come..evictions are simple legally and they can still can claim credit for closures and “counseling “ of the “victims” of “trafficking “... They are doing God’s work and aren’t tying up the courts at the moment… there’s been too many closings for this to being otherwise.. they can’t make cases for trafficking but can claim credit for shutting down suspected IME’s…

When I was doing my legal research on these issues in the wake of the RBS demolition action, a lawyer told me that there is a process to legal eviction: that a legal eviction notice (explaining the basis for the action) must be served with some sort of grace period for the tenant to make right or make alternative arrangements.
It doesn't sound like that's what's happening in these cases, though - it sounds like the fuzz comes in and serves an immediate eviction notice, with gratuitous confiscation of property.
There might be a provision that a grace period is not warranted in some cases of extreme exacerbating circumstances, and the (alleged) sexual slavery of poor trafficked victims might qualify there.
If this trend continues, I'm thinking of contacting the ACLU to see about exactly how legal all of the shit-storming is. Assuming that the/a lease-holder is an American citizen, the reality of Constitutional rights might trump baseless allegations of human trafficking/sexual slavery.
Let's all keep informed here.

You’re right JL.. however the business owners are being intimidated into taking no legal action for fear of further Charges.. and it appears to be working for now.. this really sucks.. but that’s the reality of the situation.. LE is running roughshod over the Owners and getting away with acting like vigilante posse’s.. I hope someone has the brass to sue them for beseeching the Contract lease laws..
