PM2.5 is a particle size. there's a second number that measures the percent of blockage of particles that size, something like merv-12, hepa, or n95, etc. I'm curious if you know that percent blockage number for what you use. for medical use we've been stacking merv 12 and merv 13 filters. Very effective. If we get them fitted right, we think they are better than N95.
That would depend on the material used for the cover. Which will vary based on the maker. My priority was to get something on my family members that would be more effective than the medical masks that we used up.
but it makes something like a gas mask sized device in front of your face thats unwieldy. And there is downtime for cleaning and filter replacement. for the cloth filters were playing with merv 8 and merv 12 filters, in a cloth pouch. the breathability has been the issue. its a lot more safe if we use the higher level blocking filters, but were worried that the people that need it most, the elderly will take them off because its constricting their breathing. We can adapt, but we dont really have time to market test. the peak here comes next week. In some ways we are already too late.
There are PM2.5 masks on the market. They solve the breathability issue by using one way valves when exhaled. You can get the valves as a kit, so they should be available on a bulk basis. But for hospitals, I would trust something that has such a large opening when in use.

we're evolving. Kraft has saturated the hospitals up here with real N95 masks, and the expectation is that millions of KN95 are going to be coming now that the government caved on their political stance. I'm so glad he humped on this and got the equipment just in time for what they are saying will be the peak. Its one thing they wont have to worry about.

right now the focus is more on what to do with regular, older people. There's a lot of people that need regular care, like dialysis or cancer patients that are skipping or delaying treatments because they dont feel safe. we havent figured out an easy way to use those valves in an easy to assemble and maintain kit. Somebody smarter than me will figure it out. Eventually once KN95 floods the market it wont be an issue for them either.

Kraft, a fellow monger. To the rescue.

The girls love this story. Was talking to one the other day, she heard some rich guy flew his plane to China to pick up some masks. She wanted to know who this guy is that has his own plane and can get masks and the govt can’t get them. Instead of telling her he owns a football team I told her he is a nice man who visits AMPs and was arrested in FL. She loves the story.

it is a USA problem, and sure it is a problem in some countries but not all.
do you know about this:
https://oxvent.org/2020/04/01/oxven...vernment-to-proceed-to-next-stage-of-testing/
no problem thinking out of the box in the uk, and actually this design is going forward in other countries. Good luck starting it here. In other countries you have medical experts telling governments what’s needed and governments cutting red tape. Here we have Jared Kushner hoarding equipment and selecting who gets them. It’s politics at its finest. I think it is a problem a good president would solve. But I won’t argue politics.

took 2 weeks to design. uses stuff readily available, and more of that 3D printing. Completely open design, I could build them myself in my barn, like many many other people.
When will it get certified in USA? Probably never, because no way for rich people to make money off of it. But I bet they are going to start showing up in hospitals and nursing homes soon.....
You absolutely just described the problem. We have a big (the biggest) fat (the fattest), inefficient government with a ton of special interests. The entire government has been discussing government spending instead of just asking for help and getting out of the way. It is a nightmare of a system we live in no matter who the president is, was or will be.

Secondly, THIS COUNTRY IS FULL OF IDIOTS. You know that, I know that and everyone else knows it. The politicians and people in NYC knew about this nightmare and continued living it up like 1999. Do you remember @Bit. A few weeks ago, I said he and his friends were acting idiotic based on all the information that was disseminated from the news and he brew it off like I was attacking him personally. He and his friends might not be laughing any longer, but it should not take dead bodies piling up in his city for him to have taken this seriously. It is still happening all over the country today and this stupidity is ingrained in this society over the course of decades.

I am not going to argue that our governments are failing us. It is so easy to point the finger at one guys and say he is to fault. Eventually, we will see from a post event analysis that local. state, federal governments we all woefully unprepared for germ warfare.

Wonder how many people will build one of these so they can connect it to a family member if it is needed.
This is a DC motor that rotates at a set speed and the pressure adjustment is buy the angle the actuator arm compresses the bag.

God forbid the air is not filtered enough before entering the bag!!!! Hello doctors, ask all the dying people how much they care about filtered air when their is no air entering or leaving their lungs.

If really would not cost that much to have 100,000 of these ventilators sitting around for an emergency.

We have over 300M guns in this country, maybe we will start seeing hand ventilators as well.

The cpap side of this is interesting. Thanks for posting this. Conceptually many older CPAP machines could be modified to help.

I am electronics, but I do appreciate the simplicity of this motorized design.
We’ve been playing up here with raspberry pi’s and servo motors something like drone Engines except a little bigger, driving the gear. So it’s something of a mash up of new electronics and old old technology. There’s tons of that kind of stuff coming in from China, freely available and cheap. Oh sorry, I said that bad word again. But the Chinese are the only ones who make anything these days.

Kudos to the nets owner and the lions owners for pouring money and supplies in too. Feels like NY gets more help from sports teams than they get from the feds these days.

Things are so bungled, and so disparate state to state that we should probably get used to the idea of getting rid of the surplus population.

SRH, you win the Rachel Maddow award for Amp Reviews. I have told you this multiple times over the years, You should move to China or Korea. They were better countries to live in when Obama was president and they are better countries to live in with Trump as president. I have no doubt in my mind they will still be better countries to live in if Biden becomes presient.

You just don't stop the constant nagging. Seriously, go on DEBATE POLITICS where you will find many like minded people.

NJL, Check out the reviews, people still going into spas in NY and NJ even when their communities are falling apart. Please explain who any government can fight the stupidity a society exhibits?

I've been in a total of five different states since this was first declared a pandemic and I've seen enough stupidity to last a lifetime. I'll probably be checking out myself if this thing does not settle down and am at peace with things.

You are absolutely correct, the only president that could get this mess under control would have had to call for MARSHAL LAW. Honestly, Trump is the only president I would think would have the balls to do that and he did not. there was no other president that would have done that either. The banter and bashing and BS about how great any other person in the world would have been is just that, complete BS.

Like I am going to praise china for shipping servo motors into this country during a pandemic. the entire world knows where this pandemic originated, understand how long it was covered up and allowed to spread and then actually locked down it citizens entirely to stop the spread of it in their country. Such a great country!

Whatever. I might be Maddow, you're sounding like a Sean Hannity clone. I'm not happy they dumped this virus on the world either, but that's only half the story for why our economy is wrecked and people are dying. I'm really just being practical right now. We need parts and supplies, and China makes everything these days. We got sold on service economy BS long ago, way before Trump. It's not his fault, but he sure fucks it up when he plays politics in a pandemic when we need shit right away.

But tell me, why is it ok for you to drop into politics whenever you want, but you piss and moan when someone else does?

I've noticed escorts on other sites starting to advertise availability after May 1.

I guess the pandemic is over after May 1.

I recall in Hurricane Katrina "good job Brownie" finally was replaced with a General who just kicked ass and took names. Is that guy available?

I was in my hospital today when they brought in a 28 year old mother who is 7 months pregnant and can't breathe without help. I don't understand why some people get wiped by this and others don't, but it's not just the surplus old folks that are going to get affected here.

Surplus was just a broad stroke, actually a line by Dickens.

I have the same concerns about the effects.

I know of a 30 year old in critical condition with no health problems prior to the virus.

That's the thing with this girl that creeped everyone in the ER out. She's a marathon runner, ultra fit and actually ran 2 days ago. Now she's nearly comatose.
