Just a couple days ago I read an article about this PC nonsense that you guys are worried about. A little excerpt has it perfectly correct:

"It’s common to refer to infectious diseases by their geographic origin. Examples include Asian flu, Bolivian hemorrhagic fever, Ebola, German measles, Japanese encephalitis, Lyme disease, Marburg virus, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), Pontiac fever, Rift Valley fever, Spanish flu, Venezuelan hemorrhagic fever, and West Nile virus. Spanish flu was probably a misnomer. It may have originated in Kansas.

But calling it Spanish flu was never an indication that people hated Spaniards. Nor is there any evidence that the names of any of the other diseases inspired “racism or xenophobia” toward races or ethnicities commonly identified with such regions.

Calling COVID-19 “Chinese Coronavirus” is accurate. It originated in China. But it didn’t merely originate there.

As Victor Davis Hanson has noted, China’s Communist Party rulers hid its outbreak from the rest of the world for several crucial weeks. They misrepresented its contagious nature for several more. They permitted thousands of Chinese nationals to travel throughout the world while obfuscating the potential consequences. And the Chinese government is falsely claiming the U.S. military is responsible for introducing the virus. Under those circumstances, to object to calling the virus “Chinese Coronavirus” is, to say the very least, profoundly misguided."

This is the new Best Practice: https://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/notes/2015/naming-new-diseases/en/

It's not just PC, or common courtesy. It's a guideline.

I feel sorry for them but Blacks, Hispanics and Arabs have all dealt with this and now it's the Chinese turn again. (The last time they really got the heat in my opinion was when they were building the railroad tracks in the 1800s)

I don't wish it on them but Karma is a bitch. And unfortunately it ends up hurting those who didn't even participate in the ignorance to begin with.

I'm confident Asians will band together and defend themselves though. They better call their local Tong leader and pay some dues...
lol what? Minorities have to take turns being discriminated now?

It's always been this way.

White people will be the minority in 50 years. If I'm still alive then (At 80s) it'll be interesting to see how humans in USA will discriminate against each other then . Maybe by using the 1,001 different genders and sexualities that magically appeared out of thin air in the past 10 years

On what flights? I did a quick airline search and didn't find outbound flights on the dates I searched due to travel bans. My guess is that they are still at their US home and just not working.
I texted 2 on wechat on the 13th and they both said they are home. Posted in moments of China. One posted herself in a semi hazmat suit. The other posted pics of herself in China. And the 3rd not sure where she is. Many of these girls that were smart put some money away can take this time to see family back home.

Hopefully the ones you like font decide to stay there.

I don't think it's a complete ban...most citizens of their respective countries are allowed to travel back home, albeit with modifications, restrictions or even being subject to a quarantine when they arrive home...

@ KD - The 80s are forty years behind us. Catch up my brother. We are in a much more interconnected world where American Exceptionalism is tested and is lagging behind in many areas. It is not truthful to call this a "Chinese Virus" or a "China Virus" any more than the Spanish Flu was a "Spanish" Virus. That was propaganda labeling where people died needlessly. We have some wacko germs that jumped species and our global immune system doesn't know what to hell to do with it. The net effect is that the old die, the young live. Shall we call it the "Old People's Death Virus" and the "Young People's Cold" with 70% of the NYC deaths being in people over the age of 70? That would be accurate, but highly offensive. This is not the movie The Purge and the elderly deserve to live.
Oh please. Its called the Chinese virus because it started there. Get over it. Truth matters. People need to stop being so offended. Just remember political correctness is Facsism disguised as politeness. And by the way my gf is Chinese and i explained this to her and she hasnt left me yet

EVERYONE IN THE WORLD was calling it “the corona virus” FOR WEEKS!!!!!!!!!! Then out of nowhere Trump and Fox News started calling it the Chinese virus.

We don’t call viruses based on where they originate.

Ummm..actually we DO:

Nope. When MSM first started reporting on this virus, they called it the "WuHan Virus" until the WHO named it 2019 Novel Coronavirus not soon after. Which they followed using WHO Best Practice until Feb 9th, when the WHO renamed the disease COVID-19, and the virus was renamed SARS Coronavirus-2. China didn;t have to object, because the guideline for naming viruses have been clearly defined by the WHO.

And all that changed in 2005 when the WHO established the new naming scheme I already linked.

Doesn't change past history. Besides there is nothing wrong with calling it the Wuhan or China virus. It specifies where it originated, that's it.
We don't live in the past. And it's a moot discussion as President Trump clarified three days ago that Asian Americans are not to be blamed for this virus.
