If only there were Jewish and Muslim equivalents, then I could complete my Christmas shopping all in one store!;)
There is Raki, which is made in Turkey. It is similar to Ouzo of Greece and Arak of Lebanon. Anise based liqeur.

My Turkish friends hold off on the Raki for Ramadan, but during other parts of the year, that stuff flows.

It’s funny, but I was over there and got yelled at for asking for the wrong whiskey once, and they weren’t really joking.
You probably got the same reaction. As an x of min who boasted about how much she preferred Jim Beam during the tasting portion of the Jameson’s distillery tour.

I'm mostly a beer drinker. I've had jameson's wild Turkey 101 and a couple others. After reading through this thread I went out and bought a bottle of bourbon. Starting off small. Woodford reserve.

You made a good choice with Woodford.

If you like Woodford, I might suggest something along the lines of Maker's Mark.

It is a very high quality Kentucky style bourbon that does not get caught up with the single barrel thing that usually just equates to more money from the buyer. Maker's Mark is excellent.
