I wish my tax bill was only $9,000.
I’m at $15,000.
But hey the schools are great.
Lmaooooof
Wish mine was only 9K too.

Schools are fantastic, especially last year and this year. And, they are even better if you don’t have any kids in school anymore. That’s and they are the best.

I love it when you are looking at homes and the real estate agent tries to sell you a home and tells you how good the schools are. Translated that means higher taxes for life.

When we were house shopping in the Philly Burbs and I got the "and the schools are great here" line, I bluntly would ask either, "Does the district provide vouchers or rebates for kids in private school?" or "OH, You live in this district?- How much did your rate go up last year?" - Just to watch their reactions while simultaneously ducking to avoid my wife's reaction.

I was starting to work on my taxes and was looking at what I coughed up to the school district in the past few years in New Jersey.

I remember the Village People in my former NJ town voting for marble floors for the bathrooms in the new high school.:D

Marble floors for the bathrooms? I see lawsuit coming. Wet marble floors can be very slippery.

The Selfie Generation lost another one. R.I.P.

A man who was expecting his first child was killed on Sunday and his brother was injured when a device they were preparing for a gender-reveal party exploded in a garage in the Catskills in New York, the authorities said.

Can you imagine years from now telling this child how their father died???

I never understood this gender reveal idiocy. Strike One.

He’s building an incendiary device to explode near a pregnant woman. Very smart. Strike Two.

The device goes off like a premature birth and he ends up buying the farm. Strike Three.

It’s like everything else in our social media newsfeed driven society. Someone has a party with a few friends and has the inside of the cake pink to reveal the gender of the baby. The concept spreads and everyone has to outdo the last.

This isn’t the first time a pyrotechnic device went awry at a gender reveal party. A fire was started that cause major damage at one such party.

Yeah, this is getting ridiculous...

I was watching a video on youtube about how narcissism is destroying our society and leading to people being more unhappy than ever before. I have the link to share but I'm sure there's at least a few of them on the subject.

All of those "likes" or "followers" that people get (or don't get) on Facebook or Instagram is having WAAAAY too much importance in so lives.

I'm not on either Facebook or Instagram any longer. And I don't miss them. I don't want to see photos of what someone is having to eat (again - when did THAT become a thing???), don't care about the fun you're having with your buddies, or don't want to see your (or your own) baby photos.

Should be interesting to see what happens with Facebook and Zuckerberg, though, in the next few years...

When you think about it, review sites like this one, also function like other social media platforms. How much activity reported on this site is driven by reviews and comments and the desire to be part of the fraternity?

I’ve gotten away from most social media. Even news, to some degree, though I will read digital editions of some magazines I like.

I’ve been reading Ralph Waldo Emerson lately, who is a quiet pond in the midst of so many idiots today jabbering for attention when they’re not blowing themselves up for gender reveal parties.

Very true. And I’m not trying to be insulting or disrespectful to anyone but the Politics thread seems to serve as an almost 24 hours 7 days a week discussion/ argument. I wonder what would happen to some of the people always commenting there if that thread was to be shut down.

Same here. I'm no longer on Facebook and other social media sites.
