There is a nail salon across the street.

Historically amps don’t last long in this South Philly neighborhood. The locals won’t hesitate to call if they suspect hanky panky.
Very accurate!! Before I moved into center city I lived in south Philly I can only think of 3 AMPs in south Philly and surprisingly They’re all still there but you are right the local Italians don’t play that lmao

I must be older than you. I go back to a S Philly that was 100% Italian from the Navy Yard to City Hall. Today the entire area is being gentrified by Asians and Latinos and Blacks. Only small pockets Gumbas left now.
I do remember the south Philly from what my parents told me where blacks weren’t allowed on the other side of the tracks they were chased out by the Irish and Italians maybes that’s a south Philly your talking about? Id imagine I am younger than you born in the early 90s lol

First of all, it was never all Italian. 2 st. Was and is Irish. The area west of broad south of Snyder acutely also was Irish before it became Italian. Second, Asians and blacks and Latinos are not gentrifiers; learn the meaning of the word. Gentrifiers are relatively wee off white people. The iitalian neighborhood of east Passyunk was gentrified, then the black area of point breeze on the west side of broad, north of Snyder . began to be gentrified.

There was one in the same location that closed down quickly, but overall there generally have not been amps in Deep South philly. They were not shut down, they just never existed.

Very very good points here! I was just about to mention! Gentrifiers Are not blacks and Latinos lol they most are like you mentioned well off caucasian families from the suburbs with backgrounds in finance or medicine and law, or yuppies from New York City.. $625,000 for 2,200 Sqft is a drop in the bucket compared to what you’d pay for 2,200 Sqft in Manhattan. The work being done in point breeze is slowly making its way to the West Passyunk area not long before the entire west side of broad looks like fishtown and Northern liberties :)

If I could have lasted through some of the worst grammar posted on this board in history I might have made it to the point the history professor (not english) was trying to make.

You are correct Wayne on many levels.

I guess bigotry is the history professor's side agenda suggesting the ethnic groups mentioned are not capable of the same income as the "wee off white people" he identifies as being the only definition of "gentrifiers".

Fucking hilarious what you read in these threads.

Well off White people. I am a very poor typist. Deal with reality; the term is always used for White people moving into an area where the existing population is less well off financially. I have experienced the trends that have gone on in South Philly for over 40 years, so you can call me professor if you want to.
