Fuck that! They get enough of my money!
I know, right? Every year around this time we get the simp whites coming out from under rocks telling the world how much they care about peoples from the far east holidays, and how we should be giving amp whores red envelopes full of money because we are such caring good-hearted guys, cracks me up.

I give Christmas envelopes to my mail man, the UPS and FedEx delivery men, my landscaper/snow plow guy and garbage man. When I see my barber around Christmas, I give him a more generous tip than usual. When I lived in the city I gave each of the doorman and the super a nice gratuity. Why? They provide a service I relied on all year and I want to show my appreciation. This is no different. It's also part of their culture and they remember who treats them well.

Nailed it. You do you but I’d never treat a provider like a gf. If I want a gf; I’ll go get a gf. Doesn’t mean you don’t treat providers with respect; but they don’t care about you; they don’t love you. So why? It should be respectful; but transactional. That’s it. Just my opinion.

With Chinese New Year coming up, any suggestions for a gift to celebrate? It's the Year of the Dragon and I plan to unleash mine but looking for other ideas.
Though it's strongly associated with the Chinese (at least in the States), It's not Chinese New Year...it's Lunar New Year. China is one of the Asian countries that celebrate it. For Koreans, as an example, it's Seollal.

Exactly. It’s also the biggest holiday of the year.

I gave my Korean and Yanbian employees a white envelope with cash and some of them gave me a box of fruit.

I’m traveling to my Uncle’s home now and there’s mad traffic. lol

The Chinese call it Spring Festival. Millions of Chinese diaspora is what made it a world-wide event, not just the USA, and why it's commonly referred to as Chinese New Year.
For Koreans, as an example, it's Seollal.
And Tet for Vietnamese.

FYI on wechat, the way it used to work you needed to tie your wechat account to an account of a Chinese bank. I did this 6-7 years ago so it might have changed. It's useful for regular weekly visits, but I would never use it for New Years. For that the only things I use these days are red envelopes, and fruit for everyone in the shop.

I'm 100% Asian and part Chinese, so it's the culture I grew up with; and it's the same culture that many of the girls grew up with. It isn't about the money, it's about the relationship.

As a business owner, I give red/white envelopes to the Asian vendors I rely on and have treated me well over the past year. I've become a mentor to the kids of a number of my Asian clients, and I give them red/white envelopes too, if they drop by my office during the season. It says "I appreciate you and our relationship, and wish you good things for the new year." Same thing for the shops/girls I frequent.

Building and maintaining relationships is part of the fabric if many Asian cultures, and these rituals are part of it.
